HAIR LOSS FACTS & MYTHS

HAIR LOSS FACTS

There is pattern baldness that affects both men and women. Both are experience differing patterns of loss. Hair loss is difficult for most people to handle. Causes of hair loss can be heredity, illness, trauma, stress, or particular types of medications. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) have only two products that are approved, one is a cream/topical treatment called minoxidil and the other an oral medication known as finasteride. There are some products that may create the illusion of thicker and fuller hair and some that may even cover balding thinning areas. Hairstyle changes can help to hide balding or thinning hair, although this might be easier for women than men to do.

HAIR LOSS MYTHS

Dyes, hair sprays, and teasing the hair can make it appear thicker. Hair colors, sprays, teasing, and frequent washing will NOT cause hair loss. There is some discussion about this issue. Some shampoos claim to grow hair by unclogging follicles. This has not been proven effective. These are used at best at your own risk.
